After a recent price rise, YouTube TV wants to let people who are still paying their subscriptions know that there are upgrades in the pipeline. By the summer, live video quality on Google’s streaming TV platform should significantly improve, Apple TV users will receive a significant upgrade, 5.1 sound sync difficulties might be fixed, and more.
A YouTube TV community manager provided details on each of those subjects in a Reddit post to announce the “April Update from YouTube.” The first is in video quality since, as a seasoned user of the platform, I can attest to YouTube TV’s consistently poor 1080p video feed quality.
According to Google, they will be “testing transcoding changes, including a bitrate increase for live 1080p content” over the next weeks. These adjustments “target devices that support VP9 codec with high-speed internet connections.” You should receive a better picture if these “go well,” since YouTube TV plans to make the adjustments permanent by this summer. I adore that.
A “major” update for Apple TV, according to YouTube TV, is currently rolling out and fixes a number of issues include a blank screen bug, 4K playback issues, and HDR:
iPod touch: We’ve released a significant update (1.13+) for Apple TV since our last post. These adjustments should enable YouTube and alleviate the difficulties with the program opening to a black screen.
