Even though Michael B. Jordan is now a well-known figure around the world, he once was a high school student enduring name-jokes. He was recently able to speak with one of his former classmates who used to make fun of him, unlike other high school students who are teased.
On February 23, Jordan was on the red carpet at a screening of “Creed III” for fans when he recognized a reporter, Lore’l, the radio host of “The Morning Hustle,” who just so happened to be a former classmate from high school. He gave Lore’l a quick chuckle and remarked, “Oh yes, I was the corny kid, right?” Lore’l said that the two go “all the way back to Chad Science [School] in Newark.”
During the “Cry Me a River” episode of the “Undressing Room” podcast in 2021, Lore’l made an appearance. She described some of the taunts Jordan received while they were still in school. According to People, Lore’l claimed, “To be honest with you, we teased him all the dang time because his name was Michael Jordan. We attended to Chad Science [School] together in Newark. “Let’s begin by saying that he wasn’t Michael Jordan. He would also bring a headshot to class. We called Newark home. It’s the neighborhood. What you going to do with your stupid headshot!? we would mock him. And now, observe him!”
During their red carpet encounter, in response to Jordan’s claim that Lore’l once called him “corny,” she said she “did not say that” and was “misquoted,” though she did admit that she and her classmates “used to make fun of the name.” At the end of her interview, she tried to smooth things out, telling Jordan, “[You are] obviously killing things out here. You’re not corny anymore.”
Jordan stars in “Creed III,” which he also directed, as the titular Adonis Creed alongside Jonathan Majors and Tessa Thompson. The film hits cinemas on 3 March.
