WhatsApp launches group calls that may be scheduled for iOS beta users: information on feature

Users of WhatsApp, a platform owned by Meta, can communicate with many people at once through group chats, voice calls, and video calls. To enhance user experience, the company recently raised the number of people who can participate in a group video conference from 16 to 32 and offered call connections. WhatsApp is aiming to roll out a new feature that will let users schedule group calls in order to better improve the platform.

In order to allow users to schedule group calls in advance, WhatsApp is developing a new feature dubbed “Schedule group call,” according to WABetainfo. Only individuals who have signed up for Apple’s TestFlight program have access to the feature, which is still in the beta testing stage. Users must update their iPhones to the most recent WhatsApp version, iOS 23.4.0, in order to access the function.

When users press on the call button in group chats once the WhatsApp app has been updated, a new context menu with a “Schedule Call” button will show. Users will have more control over the call initiation process thanks to the “Schedule Call” feature, which lets them choose a time for their group call and even give it a name.

The new ‘Schedule Call’ option for group calls on WhatsApp will offer several benefits, such as the ability to plan meetings, set a topic for the call in advance, and remind group participants to join the call.

Once a group call is scheduled using WhatsApp’s new feature, all members of the group will receive a notification to join the call at the predetermined time. This feature will work for both audio and video calls. Although currently in the testing phase, it is anticipated that this feature will eventually be available to all users, including those on Android and desktop platforms, in future updates of the app.

Meanwhile, the instant messaging platform is now rolling out picture-in picture mode for video calls on iOS, as per a report.
