After an outage, the global messaging service WhatsApp has resumed operations.
Problems with Meta’s messaging service began around 8 a.m. BST, preventing users from sending and receiving messages.
Users were unable to send messages, and DownDetector reported that WhatsApp was down in North America (including the United States and Canada), Europe (including the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Germany, and Italy), as well as Israel, India, Australia, and many other countries around the world.
“We are aware that some people are currently experiencing difficulty sending messages, and we are working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as soon as possible,” a WhatsApp spokesperson told ZDNET.
However, it appears that WhatsApp messages that were queued up during the outage are now being sent, and the service is back up and running, sometime around 10 a.m. BST.
“We’ve heard that some people had trouble sending messages on WhatsApp today. We’ve resolved the problem and apologize for any inconvenience “WhatsApp informed ZDNET.
ZDNET has asked WhatsApp for information on what caused the outage, but the company has yet to respond as of this writing.
WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps on the planet, with over two billion users worldwide.
