This week, Qualcomm unveiled and provided details on the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 Mobile Platform, which combines the Kryo CPU, Adreno GPU, Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF System, and a number of other technologies. In short, Qualcomm claims that this is the most potent Snapdragon 7 series to date.
The platform’s highlights include a 50% performance gain for the Kryo CPU with peak speeds reaching 2.91 GHz, a 2x rise in GPU performance, and an overall improvement in power efficiency of 13%. This translates to more power for a longer duration, which is ideal for mobile gamers or people who enjoy streaming high-quality material. Speaking of streaming, the improved modem offers up to 4.4Gbps 5G download rates and 5G/4G.
Better photo taking experiences should also be available on phones running this platform. In its datasheet, Qualcomm claims that for images and videos with exceptional dynamic range, the 18-bit Qualcomm Spectra Triple ISP (image signal processor) collects nearly 4,000x more data than a 14-bit ISP. Also, users can use Mega Low Light, which combines the best elements of 30 photographs into one vibrant output, to snap brighter and more clear pictures in gloomy environments.
Nothing has been officially announced regarding the phones that will use this platform, although Qualcomm has noted that OEMs like Realme and Redmi will soon release phones based on this platform, with releases likely this month.
