Officials say 1,000 students at a Virginia high school are absent due to flu-like symptoms

According to authorities, almost 1,000 pupils at a Virginia high school were missing this week due to flu-like symptoms.

On Oct. 21, Stafford County Public Schools spokeswoman Sandra Osborn informed The Washington Post that around 1,000 Stafford High School students were missing due to “flu-like/gastrointestinal problems.” Stafford High School has around 2,100 pupils.

“Our Health Services team is collaborating with the local health department to determine the underlying cause of the sickness,” she told other news sources.

According to the Stafford High School website, all school events for the weekend have been canceled.

“All Stafford High School events and athletics scheduled through Sunday, October 23, are canceled due to the high number of student and staff illnesses reported this week,” a message says. “We will review the situation on Monday and offer you with more information.”
