How to Terminate YouTube TV (or Pause Subscription)

This week, YouTube TV added the Viacom networks to its channel lineup. As a result, the cost rose to the point that some of its users had had enough. We have come a long way from the days when YouTube TV cost $35 a month and was an inexpensive alternative to the cable box experience from your internet provider. YouTube TV is currently most likely a horrible deal.

I can guess that some of you are considering canceling, but I wanted to emphasize that Google also allows you to temporarily halt your subscription. If you believe you may soon miss Google’s streaming service, pausing is an alternative to canceling YouTube TV, which you can do here. The YouTube TV Twitter account has hinted at “flexible” options in the future, which could mean multiple plans to choose from with select groupings of channels, similar to what Sling offers. Should that happen, fully cancelling may not be the play just yet.

1. Open tv.youtube.com/settings/subscriptions on your computer or phone.

2. Clicking that will open the Membership area of the Settings menu that will show your YouTube TV subscription and any other premium service you are paying for.

3. In the YouTube TV box on that menu, there is a link to “Pause or cancel membership.” Click or tap that.

4. The next screen will let you either pause or start the process of cancelling YouTube TV. Which should you do? This is where you get to decide how far you want to take it.

The last screen provides you one more chance to stop and informs you of everything that will be lost if you fully cancel (ex: recordings, family member access, and add-ons). This screen’s “Cancel Membership” button ends YouTube TV.

With any luck, this has helped you make a decision regarding your YouTube TV subscription. Pausing may be a good idea right now because YouTube TV has made hints about flexible future possibilities, but following this most recent and significant price increase, I don’t think anyone will argue against canceling.
