NVIDIA is releasing a new update for SHIELD TV devices that focuses mostly on updates to its GeForce NOW gaming streaming service and NVIDIA Games app. There has been a significant amount of restructuring, so I’ll let NVIDIA explain it in its own words.
An upgrade that “better supports the NVIDIA Games app’s principal use”—streaming games with GeForce NOW—will start rolling out, according to NVIDIA—will be released soon. In order to reflect this, the app’s name is also being changed to GeForce NOW Cloud Gaming for SHIELD TV. Say that five times quickly.
This, according to NVIDIA, is the first phase of adding additional functionality and enhancements to GeForce NOW on Android and Android TV devices. Moving down the road, the two apps will be unified to help development be more streamlined.
As a last little piece, this update removes Gamestream from SHIELD TV. NVIDIA says that users can use Steam Link to stream games from their PC, with instructions on how to set that up here.
