Drake only lost £745,000 on a terrible football bet, with the Canadian artist supporting both Arsenal and Barcelona on Sunday.
On Sunday, the rapper posted a bet slip on social media with a stake of CA$833,333,85 (£533k) in Bitcoin. Drake supported Arsenal to win at Elland Road, which they narrowly did, but Barcelona dominated in the Santiago Bernabeu.
Drake would have received CA$3,900,002 in exchange, but he is now £533,000 worse off. The pop star’s initial caption of “this morning should be fun” that accompanied his bet slip online has not aged well.
Drake is known for placing large wagers on sporting events, with the 35-year-old frequently risking hundreds of thousands of dollars. Drake won a massive £3.1 million on a Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann double in July, and as a thank you gesture, he gave them a Rolex.
However, while Pimblett and McCann crushed their UFC battles, Drake’s football choices were less than impressive. Arsenal defeated Leeds but only by a single goal after the hosts missed a penalty in the second half.
VAR also reversed a second penalty late into injury time, giving Leeds another chance to tie the game. And there was a reason Barcelona was placed at 3/1 to defeat Real Madrid away from home.
Madrid raced to a 2-0 lead at the Bernabeu, with goals from Karim Benzema and Federico Valverde separating the Spanish rivals. Barcelona pulled one back through Ferran Torres, but Rodrygo’s late penalty restored Madrid’s two-goal lead.
Drake not only supported Barcelona on Sunday, but he was also on their jerseys, since the rapper was a shirt sponsor for the Spaniards this week. But that wasn’t the advertisement he was looking for, even though £745,000 is pennies for the Canadian.
For the time being, the rapper may stick on UFC because it appears to be more profitable based on his betting history. But it’s unlikely to be Drake’s final football wager.
