It was administered online and by phone in January to more than 2,500 adults aged 50 to 80, then weighted to reflect the U.S. population.
“While we found that over 90% of older adults who take at least one prescription medicine expect their provider to review their list of medicines at least annually, research has shown this is often not the case,” Vordenberg said in a university news release. “This drives home the importance of comprehensive medication reviews, which can often be billed to insurance by clinics and pharmacies as a separate patient encounter.”
According to new research, talk therapy for depression may shield patients from heart problems.
Researchers think that once depression lessens, people might start to exercise and eat more healthfully.
In a study of nearly 637,000 patients who received talk therapy from the National Health Service (NHS) of the United Kingdom between 2012 and 2020, researchers discovered that those whose depressive symptoms lessened were 12% less likely to develop cardiovascular disease, including coronary heart disease, stroke, and death.
“It is the first time that such a link has been established; however, it is important to note that our study does not prove a causal effect, namely that the lower likelihood of developing cardiovascular disease is caused by the psychological therapy,” stated lead author Celine El Baou a research assistant at the Dementia Research Center of University College London.
