Back Apple supplier Foxconn to invest $200M in India to build AirPods factory: Report

According to reports, Foxconn, a Taiwanese contract manufacturer, plans to build a factory in India particularly for the production of Apple’s AirPods after receiving a contract to make them. This information was provided to Reuters by persons who had firsthand knowledge of the situation.

According to this agreement, Foxconn, which assembles over 70% of all iPhones, will now also serve as a supplier of AirPods, making this the first time it will make these items. Foxconn’s efforts to diversify its production away from China are highlighted by this action. Several Chinese suppliers already produce AirPods.

Foxconn vies with Taiwanese rivals such as Wistron Corp and Pegatron Corp to win more orders from Apple, the world’s most valuable company.

A subsidiary, Foxconn Interconnect Technology Ltd, plans to start construction of a manufacturing facility in Telangana in the second half of this year and begin production by the end of 2024 at the earliest, the person said.

A second person with direct knowledge of the matter, who also declined to be identified as the matter was not yet public, said the Foxconn subsidiary will make AirPods in India without providing further details.
