Willow, a two-year-old cat, has joined the family at the White House, a spokesman for First Lady Dr. Jill Biden said on Friday. The short-haired tabby cat, which is grey and white, was given the name Willow Grove by the first lady, 70, in honor of her native Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.
The spokesman said Willow is immediately at ease with her new owners, whom she has met before, as she settles into 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. with lots of goodies, toys, and space to roam.
“A farm cat from Pennsylvania, Willow made quite an impression on Dr. Biden in 2020 when she jumped up on the stage and interrupted her remarks during a campaign stop,” the spokesman claimed. “After observing their strong bond, the farm’s owner of the farm knew that Willow belonged with Dr. Biden.”
Then-elect Joe Biden and his wife made the announcement that they would be bringing a cat to the White House in January 2021 in November 2020.
They moved with their German shepherds, Major and Champ. It was the first time a pet had resided at the White House in four years, and it was also the first time a rescue dog had called 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue home.
In 2018, the Bidens took Major home from the Delaware Humane Association.
